La Trobe University Bendigo is looking for students and staff to volunteer to raise puppies who will go on to become assistance dogs.
Last year, pharmacy student Sarah Postlethwaite raised Sophie the Labrador, and this year is looking after young Rosie.
As well as general care of Rosie, Sarah has to take her out in public for exposure and, when she is a bit older, teach her how to pick up on signs of anxiety.
Sarah said she felt more proud than sad saying goodbye to her first pup Sophie, knowing she was going on to help someone.
She said she decided to take on the care of another puppy after meeting a veteran and hearing his hopes for how an assistance dog would help him.
"If it gives the opportunity to help another veteran, why not?" Sarah said.
Interested students and staff can email DogsOnCampus@latrobe.edu.au.
