TWO wombats appear to have been shot and a further two fatally injured following a grim discovery east of Kyneton.
Crime Stoppers is seeking information about the deaths of four wombats found in Pastoria in the past six weeks.
The bodies of the four wombats were found along Prendergasts Lane, about 30 kilometres east of Kyneton.
Crime Stoppers said two of the bodies had signs of bullet wounds.
All four wombats had been injured.
"It is believed the deceased wombats might have been placed along the roadside," Crime Stoppers said in a statement.
Killing or harming protected wildlife is a serious offence.
The Conservation Regulator is urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or by submitting a confidential report online at crimestoppersvic.com.au
