MATTHEW Dellavedova is confident of a bright future for the Cleveland Cavaliers as the former Bendigo Junior Brave and Maryborough product continues to await NBA re-start plans.
The NBA season has been suspended since March 11 after Utah Jazz centre Rudy Gobert became the first NBA player to test positive for COVID-19.
When the season does re-start it's potentially going to be in a 'NBA bubble' at a Disney Complex in Orlando, but a range of options are still being considered by the NBA as to whether all 30 teams should return or limiting the returning teams to only those still in playoff contention.
Dellavedova's Cavaliers were at the bottom of the eastern conference standings with a 19-46 record when the season was halted.
"In the couple of weeks before (the suspension) there were a couple of meetings with the team around hygiene and things like washing your hands and being a bit more cautious around fans in the arena; maybe don't sign autographs, which is tough to tell people no, or at least carry your own pen around," Dellavedova told Peter Helliar in an Instagram Live Q and A on Saturday morning.
"Then it escalated quickly to the games being called off. It was the Oklahoma City-Utah game when I saw some tweets coming through and turned on the TV and it was bizarre to see everything playing out.
"You then wonder how long it's going to be and you keep hearing things about we're going to be coming back soon.
"But we're still waiting for a plan, although, it is closer now. I think a vote is going to be had on Thursday of the team owners and, hopefully, we have a plan after that."
Dellavedova - a dual Olympian - is in his second stint with the Cavaliers.

After going undrafted following his college career at St Mary's, the 29-year-old played with Cleveland from 2013-14 to 2015-16, which included being part of the Cavaliers' team that came from 3-1 down in the 2016 NBA finals to beat the 73-9 Golden State Warriors 4-3.
Dellavedova then spent two-and-a-bit seasons at the Milwaukee Bucks before last season being traded back to the Cavaliers, who are rebuilding following the second LeBron James era that featured four consecutive finals appearances for the franchise.
"It has been an up-and-down season. We're not in the playoff picture, so if the NBA announces it's coming back we don't know whether we're going to be included, which is tough," Dellavedova said.
"But there's some great pieces there with Andre Drummond, Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson and then the younger guys coming through.
"I think the future is definitely bright in Cleveland, it's just going to take a little bit of time to get there."
Dellavedova was averaging 3.1 points, 3.2 assists and 1.3 rebounds per game for the Cavaliers when the season was put on hold.
Now in his ninth NBA season, Dellavedova has played 434 career games with averages of 5.6 points, 3.7 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game.
