BENDOGO LEAGUE
HAVING spent all day trailing, a goal after the siren to Jack Scanlon propelled Gisborne to a gripping two-point win over Eaglehawk in round seven of Addy Iso-Season Bendigo league action on Saturday.
The Bulldogs trailed by 32 points during the third term, but left the Hawks stunned at Canterbury Park with their stirring fightback that was capped when Scanlon marked 20m out on a slight angle and then converted the set shot to give Gisborne a thrilling 14.13 (97) to 14.11 (95) victory.
For the fifth-placed Hawks, it was a second agonising defeat in a row after losing to Sandhurst by three points the previous week.
At Wade Street, the Golden Square juggernaut rolled on with the Bulldogs beating Strathfieldsaye by 21 points in the heavyweight clash.
Scores had been level at 7.6 apiece at half-time, but the Bulldogs kicked 7.7 to 4.4 after the break to keep their unbeaten record intact.
Kangaroo Flat and Maryborough were nip and tuck all afternoon at Dower Park with the lead changing regularly throughout.
The Magpies led by a goal with just over five minutes to play, but the Roos with a vocal home crowd behind them answered the challenge, kicking the last two majors of the game to prevail 13.13 (91) to 12.13 (85) and notch their second win.
The other two games were both blowouts, with South Bendigo beating Kyneton by 85 points at the QEO and Sandhurst toppling Castlemaine by 75 points at Camp Reserve.

HEATHCOTE DISTRICT
Lockington-Bamawm United reaffirmed its powerhouse status, comfortably disposing of North Bendigo by 33 points in their eagerly-awaited Heathcote District showdown.
Both sides had gone into the game undefeated, but it was the Cats who emerged from the Bulldogs' fortress at Atkins Street with their unblemished record still standing, winning 15.14 (104) to 10.11 (71).
In other games, Heathcote continues to impress as it moved back into the top three with a 20-point win over Huntly, which is still chasing its first win.
The Hawks have been mighty stiff though. Of their six defeats the Hawks have lost four games by eight points or less, but have a huge challenge next week taking on North Bendigo on the rebound.
Mount Pleasant made it two wins in a row with a 19-point victory over White Hills, while Colbinabbin squared its ledger 3-3 with a tight seven-point win over Elmore after rallying from a 20 point deficit at three quarter-time.

LODDON VALLEY
The top four teams in the Loddon Valley league were all victorious in what was a one-sided round with just one game decided by less than eight goals.

Ladder-leader Bridgewater disposed of arch-rival Newbridge by 50 points in another dominant showing, Pyramid Hill kicked the first seven goals of the game en route to a 65-point win over Mitiamo in the grand final rematch, while Calivil United led at every change in its 48-point win over Inglewood.

NORTH CENTRAL
Wedderburn and Wycheproof-Narraport both have a two-game break in the top two of the North Central league with all teams having now played each other once.
The Redbacks bounced back from their first loss of the season last week to beat Boort by 26 points, while the Demons produced a scintillating four quarter performance to inflict a 43-point loss on Sea Lake Nandaly.
Birchip-Watchem's struggles continued with a 44-point loss to Charlton, however, some mid-season additions arriving next week should see the Bulls' form begin to turnaround.
In the final game of the round St Arnaud ended its five-game losing streak after an entertaining tussle with Donald where 31 goals were kicked.
