Cobaw Community Health has received funding through Trans Gender Victoria's Support for Peer-Support Activities that Revitalise Kinship grant.
The funding is aimed at increasing health and wellbeing outcomes for trans gender Victorians by supporting the ideas of existing groups and through the start-up of new groups.
Cobaw has worked with local LGBTIQA+ community members through its WayOut and Country LGBTIQA+ Inclusive Program.
A gap was identified in the provision of trans and gender diverse support.
CLIP project worker Belinda Brain said Cobaw is committed to supporting the trans and gender diverse community.
"By putting the call out for people to help get this group up and running, we hope to better connect with our local trans and gender diverse community," Ms Brain said.
Cobaw is involved in the planning and start up stages of the Macedon Ranges Group.
The direction, purpose and shape of the group will be driven by community members.
The group will commence online, with a move to face-to-face meetings when possible.
The group will provide a safe and inclusive environment for members of the trans and gender diverse community to come together, make connections and create a group that meets the needs of local people.
WayOut project worker Rhani Dean-Talbett said the group will be an asset to the local community.
"Together we can raise awareness and increase the visibility of the trans and gender diverse community's rural and regional experience within our community," Ms Dean-Talbett said.
