THE trophy cabinet at Strathdale-Maristians grew during the 2019-20 season, with the addition of three new pieces of silverware.
The Suns won yet another Bendigo District Cricket Association first XI premiership, the Keck-Findlay Shield for the one-day flag, while also creating a piece of history by becoming the first BDCA club to win Cricket Victoria's Regional Big Bash Twenty20 title.
Plus, star all-rounder Cameron Taylor became the first player since the award's inception in 1975-76 to win the BDCA Cricketer of the Year for a fourth time with 21 votes.
The Suns were crowned BDCA premiers courtesy of their finish on top of the ladder.
Having beaten White Hills in a semi-final, the Suns were scheduled to take on Huntly-North Epsom in the grand final at the QEO.
However, the game was abandoned by the BDCA, which supported Cricket Australia and Victoria recommendations to immediately cease cricket in grand final week as part of coronavirus risk mitigation measures.
Rather than the Suns winning the flag by a margin of runs or wickets, their premiership victory was by one point, which is what they narrowly edged the Power out by for top spot on the ladder.
The Suns' flag was their sixth in the past 10 years, with the trio of captain Ben DeAraugo, former skipper Linton Jacobs and Ryan Haythorpe all now six-time premiership players.
While the Suns' premiership didn't come with the jubilation of hitting the winning runs or taking the match-winning wicket, they got to savour such a moment at the Junction oval on January 26 when all the Sunday cricket they had played throughout the season paid off by beating Langwarrin in the Regional Big Bash final.
The Suns won by five wickets with 11 balls to spare, with T20 skipper Taylor earning man of the match for his unbeaten 56 off 45 in what was a season where Taylor made constant headlines for his deeds with the bat, with his 906 runs in the home and away season - which included three scores of 150-plus - a new BDCA benchmark.
