The museum is one of a number of galleries, museums, drive-in cinemas and historic sites around Victoria that will be able to open their doors from June 1 with up to 20 patrons permitted per space.
Museum chief executive Hugo Leschen said having the organisation's doors closed since March 17 was disappointing but essential.
"Across that time the Easter parade was cancelled," he said. "We're a not-for-profit museum and have budgets and expenditure like every business. To close for such a period, particularly including Easter, is very impactful.
"So it impacted financially but museums are about the collections and the visitors. We have got a fantastic collection and it was heartbreaking to lock visitors out. So we're very excited about restrictions being eased and are keen to open as quick as possible.
"Of course, people didn't get to see Dai Gum Loong (at Easter). He's here and ready to welcome visitors."
Mr Leschen said he hoped residents in the Bendigo region would begin re-exploring their own backyard as more things opened up from June 1.
"In this circumstance, it's a great opportunity to revisit places you haven't been for a long time and refresh the memory," he said. "A lot people say 'I went there years ago', well here's a great opportunity to come have another look.
"One of things we are looking at today, is to get better understanding of what 'per space' is. If it's 20 people for reception, Sun Loong and Loong galleries, it gives us 60 people.
"But what ever it is, we will follow restrictions and requirements very carefully so everyone is safe."
