Business manager Martin Myles said he believed the cinema could be open by July depending on what coronavirus restrictions were in place.
"It's very changeable but we are hoping for as early opening as possible," he said. "We want to ensure it is safe and not running at a loss. It's a bit of a tricky one.
"After hearing what Scott Morrison said last week, which referenced cinemas in the federal guidelines, he was specific to say (cinemas) could open with a maximum of 20 per session. The problem is it is not financially viable. Our capacity is 174 people and we know what our standard break even (number) is per session. Twenty people is well under that (number)."
Mr Myles said the support for the cinema resulting from the Bums in Seats campaign in 2018, combined with an increase in attendances prior to the shutdown, had left Star Cinema in a good position.
"When we were forced to close on March 24, because of such great run of success, we were in a good enough financial position that we can weather storm," he said.
"We are entitled to JobKeeper (and other support) but it is a testimony to how well we were doing, knowing we can get there (after the shutdown).
"Had this happened in the bad-old days before our campaign, we would have probably folded. But we are in a vastly different position thanks to lots of great support from the community whether it has been financial or positive feedback through social media."

During their shutdown, the cinema has been keeping in touch with the community through its social media pages. It has shifted its Cinetopia sessions online, encouraging people to stream a certain film each week.
"We have been using social media and electronic direct mailouts to communicate with followers and patrons," Mr Myles said. "We're trying to not to have much overkill and be varied with our messages.
"I have also been putting out some anecdotal stuff about things you can do in Eaglehawk during coronavirus restrictions. So far there has been a good response from people in the Borough.
"People are also itching to get back (to the cinema) and we feel that we'll do okay. We have to thank everyone passing on their good wishes. Our patrons have been so supportive and encouraging."
