Victorian premier Daniel Andrews is expected to make announcements on Monday morning regarding the easing of coronavirus restrictions.
Part of that will include the introduction of rapid response outbreak teams that will prevent, respond to and limit outbreaks of the virus after restrictions are eased.
As part of the $20 million effort, the squads will conduct proactive visits to high-risk facilities, businesses and industries and assist in managing any high-risk cases should they occur.
"The testing blitz has helped us understand how the virus is moving through the community," health minister Jenny Mikakos said. "These extra measures will ensure we continue to understand its movements and protect Victorians.
"We have to stay vigilant until there is a vaccine, which is why we're boosting our public health surveillance and response capacity, to keep Victorians safe as we move into the next phase of our pandemic response."
The announcement comes following Victoria's testing blitz.
Since April 30, Bendigo Health has conducted more than 2600 tests including about 800 healthcare workers. It brings the total number of COVID-19 tests to more than 4300.
Across Victoria 209,905 tests have been conducted to Sunday morning including about 150,000 of which were conducted during the statewide blitz.
Bendigo Health chief executive officer Peter Faulkner thanked the community for helping the health service better understand the transmission of the virus in the community.
"To go from averaging 60 tests per day to close to 200 is testament to the hard work of our staff," he said.
"We're really pleased people have put their hands up to be tested, particularly those in high-risk areas and workers who have high contact with the general population.
"The tests results show community transmission appears to be very low and these results will help inform the state government's decision when reviewing lockdown restrictions."
Greater Bendigo's nine confirmed cases of COVID-19 have all recovered from the disease.
Testing sites in Bendigo are located at the Bendigo Health's Screening Clinic on Stewart Street or the Bendigo Respiratory Clinic in Spring Gully.
