SEDGWICK fell a week short of earning the chance to defend its Emu Valley Cricket Association premiership, bowing out of the 2019-20 flag race in a semi-final.
The Rams spent the bulk of the home and away season sitting either first or second on the ladder, but slipped to third late and were subsequently beaten by eventual premier United in an away semi-final at Epsom-Huntly.
United certainly proved a nemesis for Sedgwick, with the Rams also losing to the Tigers in a semi-final of the Twenty20 competition.
The Rams' standout player of the season was all-rounder Jordan Ilsley, who produced one of the great EVCA seasons with the ball.
Ilsley picked up 48 wickets for the season - more than triple the amount of Sedgwick's second top wicket-taker, the evergreen Scott McKenzie (15).
Ilsley created his first bowling headlines in round two when he claimed a match-haul of 12-30 against Axe Creek - 7-7 and 5-23 - in an outright victory.
He later topped his seven-for in the first innings against the Cowboys by snaring 8-69 off 22.1 overs in a round 11 draw with Mandurang.
While Ilsley was the most dominant player with the ball at the Rams, the batting was led by skipper Greg Thomas' 459 runs.
Dustin Elliott (423) also cracked the 400-run barrier for the Rams, who didn't have a player make a century, with Elliott's 83 against West Bendigo in round six the team's highest score.
Despite no centuries, the Rams did have the competition's most scores of 50-plus with 18 half-tons.
