BENDIGO LEAGUE
WHAT shaped as a cracking contest pre-game between two undefeated sides turned into a fizzer on Saturday as Golden Square crushed Eaglehawk bv 52 points in round three of the Addy Iso-Season.
Apart from a 15-minute patch in the second quarter when the Hawks kicked four unanswered goals, Square controlled the contest at Wade Street for the remainder of the match to continue its imposing start to the season with a trio of victories now by 52, 87 and 62 points.
While it was the Square-Hawks clash that had match-of-the-round status, the most enthralling of the round three tussles was the battle at the QEO between Sandhurst and South Bendigo.
Scores were level entering time-on of the final term, but it was the Dragons who held the edge over the last 10 minutes to pull away and win by 10 points, leaving arch-rivals Sandhurst and Golden Square as the only unbeaten teams.
Elsewhere, Kangaroo Flat notched its first win of the season with a 49-point victory over Castlemaine; Gisborne's fast start with a six-goal to one first quarter paved the way for its 39-point win over Maryborough; while the Kyneton defence was forced to work overtime against Strathfieldsaye as the Storm had 40 scoring shots in a 74-point victory at the Showgrounds.

HEATHCOTE DISTRICT
Lockington-Bamawm United and North Bendigo continue to set the pace in the Heathcote District league.
The ladder-leading Cats strangled Colbinabbin, restricting the Grasshoppers to just seven goals - four of which came in the final quarter when the game was done and dusted - while kicking 14 themselves in a 46-point win at home.
Mount Pleasant matched it with North Bendigo for three quarters, but when challenged the Bulldogs put the foot down in the last term to win by 26 points at Toolleen.
Leitchville-Gunbower won its first game by 18 points over Elmore, while White Hills and Huntly were nip and tuck all day before two late goals from free kicks to the Demons gave them an eight-point victory.

LODDON VALLEY
Calivil United emerged victorious from the tightest game in the Loddon Valley league, staving off a late surge from Marong to win by nine points.
The Demons looked to have the game well in hand when they led by 30 points at three quarter-time.
However, the Panthers showed plenty of grit and clawed their way back to within three points in the closing stages, only for their momentum to be stifled by Demons' recruit Mitch O'Dwyer, who kicked the sealing goal after marking 25m out deep in the pocket.
BL-Serpentine's encouraging start continued with an 18-point victory against Mitiamo, with the two sides combining for 32 goals despite the tough conditions, while Pyramid Hill and Bridgewater retained their unblemished records.

NORTH CENTRAL
A week is a long time in football - just ask Birchip-Watchem in the North Central league.
Seven days after they were on the end of a two-point loss to Boort, this time the Bulls were on the right side of the ledger, winning a thriller over Sea Lake Nandaly by one point in the grand final re-match.
Scores were level in the dying moments before the Bulls were able to force through a behind from a goalmouth scramble seconds before the siren sounded to get their first win of the season.
Boort got over the line against Donald by nine points in a hard-fought contest, while Wedderburn and Wycheproof-Narraport both improved to 3-0 as they continue to lead the way.
