Project co-founder Dr Nicole Townsend says the Gowns for Doctors project has grown beyond her wildest imagination.
"We are almost ready to dispatch our 1000th gown," Dr Townsend said.
"This week, 450 gowns have been sent out to communities in need."
Dr Townsend say gowns are now being sent to regional and rural Victorian towns.
Practices in Echuca, Rochester and Swan Hill have or will soon receive hand sewn gowns as practices run out of single use protective gowns.

The project has generated $40,000 in donations, which is used to purchase fabric.
Sewing enthusiasts in the community donate their skills and time to stitch the gowns.
"Each gown we make, if you use it daily for six months, will give 130 wears," Dr Townsend said.
The Community Enterprise Foundation, Epsom Lions Club and Rural Doctors Association Victoria have been major donors to the project.
