MORE CRICKET - The Bendigo Advertiser's 2019-20 BDCA Team of the Year
FINALS have been few and far between for Kangaroo Flat in the BDCA over the past 12 years, which makes the Roos' round 13 capitulation against Eaglehawk all the more bitter.
Heading into the final round of the season a finals berth was very much there for the taking for the Roos - they were inside the top four, their form was solid, their destiny was in their own hands and their opponent was second-last on the ladder.
Then when they had the Hawks 7-54 on day one the Roos looked headed for a semi-final for just the second time since playing off in the 2008 grand final.
However, the gritty Hawks fought their way to 152 before the Roos faltered with the bat, crashing from 2-87 to all out 145 in reply to not only lose by seven runs, but lose their position in the top four as their season came to a crashing end.
While that was a bitterly disappointing end to the season, the Roos also endured the frustration of losing a fourth Twenty20 grand final when beaten by Huntly-North Epsom by 38 runs in January.
The most memorable of the performances delivered by a Kangaroo Flat player was Dylan Klemm's record-breaking effort with the ball against Strathfieldsaye at the QEO in round four.
Klemm's 9-34 off 16.1 overs were the best bowling figures ever by a Kangaroo Flat player and rank 11th all-time in the BDCA, yet despite his heroics, the Roos still lost when they were unable to chase the Jets' 137.
There was also a notable moment for the Roos in their round eight win over Bendigo when on the same day Adam Burns took both his 500th wicket and made his 5000th run for the club.
