Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Richard Carlyon said a cold front was due to hit the west of the state on Thursday night.
"That front arriving later tomorrow will allow showers to increase through the afternoon and evening over western and central areas," Mr Carlyon said on Wednesday.
Bendigo is forecast to receive up to two millimetres, while Castlemaine could see up to three millimetres, and Maryborough one to four millimetres.

More showers are expected at the weekend, with another front forecast to move through on Sunday.
"It looks like that will be a wetter system, as it moves through," Mr Carlyon said.
But temperatures are expected to remain relatively mild, until a front brings chillier weather mid-next week.
The showers will arrive in an already wet April for the region, with the start of the month bringing significant falls.
As of Wednesday, Bendigo had received 77 millimetres of rain - two and a half times the typical rainfall for April.
More than 47 millimetres arrived on April 4 alone.
Maryborough has seen 52.2 millimetres of rain this month, well above the 31.5 millimetres it could ordinarily expect.
At Castlemaine, 65.6 millimetres has fallen so far.
This is almost double its usual rainfall for April.
