Acting Sergeant David Scott said it was concerning the number of elderly people coming to make inquiries in person.
Health authorities have warned elderly people are at a higher risk from disease COVID-19. People aged over 70 have been urged to stay at home wherever possible.
Victorian regulations only allow people to leave the house for essential shopping, medical care or compassionate needs, exercise and work or study.
Acting Sergeant Scott said police would like elderly people to avoid being out in the community, so they were not exposed.
He said many of the inquiries were not urgent or important.
