Damage to the bluestones along parts of the creek could be seen once the rain started to subside at the weekend
City of Greater Bendigo engineering manager Brett Martini said at least two sections of the creek were damaged by Friday's major rainfall event.
"At this stage the city will need to wait for the creek water to subside further to assess the full extent of the damage and the repair works that will be required to repair the creek floor," Mr Martini said.
"As part of the development of the 2020/2021 budget the city will also consider undertaking works to the walls in the constructed sections of the creek that have now reached the end of their life."
A flood resilience study is underway for Kangaroo Flat and Golden Square, the two Bendigo suburbs most heavily affected by Friday's rain.
The yard at Peta Murphy's Kangaroo Flat home was under water about a metre of water on Friday night.
"My driveway was like a river," Ms Murphy said.
It took hours to shift all the debris from the yard when the rain cleared.
A couch and a table tennis table that were set up in the backyard were among the casualties.
The flood water got into Ms Murphy's vehicle, which had to be towed from her carport.
"I had to go buy a new battery for the car to work again," she said.
The SUV might have started again, but the sound system never recovered.
She said her landlord was advocating for the City of Greater Bendigo to come out and try to clear the drain out the front of the property, which had been blocked.
Friday was Bendigo's wettest day in nine years.
The Bureau of Meteorology recorded 47.2 millimetres at Bendigo Airport.
