READ MORE - EVCA grand finals this weekend now cancelled
COULD Emu Creek's momentum have continued for one more weekend and delivered the Emus what would have been a stunning premiership from fourth position?
Or would United have added premiership cup No.17 to its stacked trophy cabinet?
We'll never know because the two teams won't take to the field for this weekend's Emu Valley Cricket Association division one grand final at Club Court, with the game abandoned due to the coronavirus pandemic.
What we do know though is that Emu Creek would have hit the grand final riding a wave of momentum and confidence.
That's what happens when you beat the top side - Spring Gully - two games in a row, which the Emus had done.
Firstly, they beat the Crows in round 13 by four runs just to make the finals and then in the semi-final last weekend by one wicket in one of those upsets where fourth knocks over top. They had to dig mighty deep in both.
In both wins over the Crows Justin Hancock was the batting saviour for the Emus, with scores of 73 and 68. Pity he - and his team-mates - won't get to reap the rewards of his hard work with the willow this weekend.
The Emus won just one of their first five games, yet scrapped and clawed their way back up the ladder over the remainder of the season to scrape into fourth by two points.
Momentum is everything at this time of the year when it comes to winning summer sport premierships and the Emus had it in spades.
While the Emus were on a roll, the Tigers have barely put a foot wrong this season, losing just once since round three and knocking over Sedgwick in last week's semi-final.
United skipper Harry Whittle sent down a marathon 36 overs against the Rams last weekend, taking 5-50 and giving him 41 scalps for the season. How many overs would he have bowled this weekend?
Could Pat Hartney have spun the Tigers to victory or could Broderick Williams repeated his heroics of the Twenty20 grand final (100 n.o.) and been the backbone of a winning score? Your guess is as good as mine.
