FESTIVAL OF AUSTRALIAN FILM

With a change of venue, the Bendigo Festival of Australian Film will still go ahead at the historic Star Cinema, Eaglehawk.

All program details and screening times remain unchanged, with tickets available for pre-purchase here or at the Star Cinema box office across the festival period.

Opening night will screen Death in Brunswick, presented by director John Ruane, the festival will continue for three more days of quality Australian cinema.

Other films featured throughout the festival period include Angel Baby, Bran Nue Dae, The Dressmaker and many more.

Tickets are $18 or $14 concession (note, no free tickets)

$2 from every ticket sold will be donated to Mt Rothwell to assist with the conservation of bushfire threatened wildlife.

Where: Star Cinema, 1 Peg Leg Road, Eaglehawk.

When: Friday, March 20 - Monday, March 23, various screen times.

BENDIGO BOTANIC GARDENS

Enjoy the wide open spaces and beautiful gardens at the local Botanic Gardens.

The Bendigo Botanic Garden was planned during the early days of the gold rush, with land alongside the Bendigo Creek officially set aside in 1857.

When: Gardens are open every day from 7.30am to sunset.

RIVER GARDENS AXEDALE

Stroll around rose gardens that overlook the Campaspe River in Axedale at the River Gardens Axedale Homestead.

This open garden and bed and breakfast shares the beauty of the river with it's visitors and guests.

Interact with farm animals, enjoy coffee and cake in the gardens and search the junk yard for some hidden art treasures.

The garden is open every weekend until May (unless otherwise notified).

Tickets $8 adults, children free to attend.

CANTERBURY GARDENS

Canterbury Gardens boasts 35 acres of gorgeous historic gardens alongside the Eaglehawk Creek, with some original relics still intact.

The central feature of the gardens is the ornamental water fountain with sculptural eagles as a reminder of how Eaglehawk got its name.

The gardens are also known for their extensive Dahlia collection and colourful annual displays.

Where: High Street, Eaglehawk.

ROSALIND PARK

Enjoy 60 acres of grassy open spaces right in the heart of the Bendigo CBD.

Transformed during the gold rush era, Rosalind Park features leafy trees, ornate statues, a historic conservatory, fernery and much more.

Where: Gaol Road, Bendigo.

LAKE WEEROONA

Lake Weeroona would be one of the more popular lake parks in Bendigo.

The Lake is known for its adventure playground, various rowing activities, its flora and fauna and scenic lake.

Where: 292 Napier Street, Bendigo.

LAKE NEANGER - LAKE TOM THUMB

Located in Eaglehawk precinct and developed as a recreation area in 1883, these lakes provide a natural wilderness to explore.

The path around the lake is sealed and lit up at night, to allow all to enjoy an evening stroll.

Other features include a picnic shelter, boardwalk, tables, chairs, barbecue, skate park and play space.

Where: 20 Simpsons Road, Eaglehawk.

CASTLEMAINE BOTANICAL GARDENS

Castlemaine's Botanical Gardens are the perfect place for a romantic walk around the lake.

The gardens are home to an impressive collection of native and exotic trees, centred on an ornamental lake.

The heritage-listed Castlemaine Botanical Gardens provides a glimpse of a 19th century designed landscape.

Where: Walker Street, Castlemaine.

Enjoy the talented Melbourne Symphony Orchestra from the comfort of your lounge room as they showcase performances through Youtube.

Throughout the ban on public events, the MSO will continue to share great music instead of touring across the country.

The Bendigo Family History Group will be closed until further notice due to the Coronavirus.

Any genealogy queries can still be referred to the email address: bendigogen@gmail.com that will continue to be monitored.

The group will advise of the resumption to normal duties at the library.
