From today, Australian Community Media has implemented a revised operations procedure in response to the virus, after gathering expert advice to determine how we can minimise the risk to staff and also continue to serve the community when the need to do so has never been greater.
The health and safety of our staff is our paramount concern, but that concern extends beyond the office and into the entire community.
So our staff have been asked to work from home, for the foreseeable future, provided they are able and willing to do so. This reflects a practice already introduced in many other Australian workplaces.
ACM management has put together a plan to ensure our ability to deliver the news will not be compromised, and our contact details have not changed.
It remains our major objective to deliver the news to our readers in whichever format they prefer that is concise, accurate, important and appreciated.
Ensuring our health system is supported by the rest of us will be a major factor in determining how well we all cope when it matters most.
It's vital we keep calm, and important we keep an eye out for those around us.
If you don't know your neighbour well, now might be the time to swap phone numbers... If they have a few extra rolls of toilet paper and you don't, they could suddenly become your new best friend.
We might not be able to gather in large numbers, but we have not been asked to stop being human beings or caring for one another.
Please, take the time to read up on COVID-19, otherwise known as coronavirus, but we urge you to refer to sites such as those promoted or referred to by government, health organisations and primary care networks.
This is not a time for panic, but it is a time for concern and for appropriate measures that help manage risks to the community.
We have removed our paywall from our stories about the coronavirus. This is a rapidly changing situation and we want to make sure our readers are as informed as possible. If you would like to support our journalists you can subscribe here.
