The 30-year-old California Gully man was arrested on Sunday night in Ballarat and is expected to face court today.
Police believe he was responsible for a spate of thefts that began on 30 December.
All were at non-24 hour service stations and supermarkets. Businesses in Bendigo, Castlemaine, Elmore, Kyneton and Rochester were targeted.
Police allege he also attempted to burgle an 18th business in the Bendigo region.
Police believe the same man was responsible for five recent burglaries in the Ballarat area.
