THE 2010s decade started on a positive note for Maryborough in the Bendigo league.

In 2010 the Magpies not only played finals, but also recorded a September victory after defeating Sandhurst by 15 points in the elimination final.
As well as their senior team getting through to the second week of the finals - they went on to lose the first semi-final to South Bendigo by 71 points - 2010 also yielded a reserves premiership for the Magpies.
That Maryborough reserves flag of 2010 was one of just three football premierships won by non-Bendigo clubs during the decade.
However, that 2010 season would prove to be the highpoint of the decade for the Magpies.
From their 10 senior wins in 2010, that number gradually decreased until the Magpies went winless in 2015 and again in 2016.
They didn't know it at the time, but when the Magpies sang their club song at the QEO on Sunday, August 10, 2014, after a one-point win over South Bendigo, they wouldn't do so again after a senior victory for another 1049 days.
The Magpies then endured a 47-game losing streak, with their next win not coming until round 10 of 2017 when they finally beat Castlemaine by 58 points at Princes Park.
"We were 0-47 and now we're 1-0," Maryborough coach Shake Skontra said following the Magpies' drought-breaking 17.12 (114) to 8.8 (56) victory.
"I think the whole club probably feels as though we've got the monkey off our back."
After their hardship of 2015-18 when they went 0-18, 0-18, 1-17 and 1-17, the Magpies ended the decade seemingly headed back in the right direction with six wins last year in what was a season that featured the return of Stewart Crameri to Maryborough following his 103-game AFL career.
Despite spending three seasons away from the club at Lake Wendouree between 2015 and 2017, midfielder Luke Bucknall topped Maryborough's best player votes (six for being named best, five for second best) for the decade.
Bucknall racked up 252 votes, followed by Coby Perry with 236, with the pair featuring among the Magpies' best players a combined 118 times for the decade.
The only Maryborough players to kick more than 100 goals for the decade were Matthew Bond (149) and Cameron Rinaldi (130).
One of the regular battles the Magpies faced during the decade was their capacity to field an under-18 team, which they last did in 2016.
