Bendigo Chinese Association president Doug Lougoon said the organisation has advised Chinese Lion teams planning to visit and participate in the Easter Festival activities that the state and federal governments will have final say.
"It is certainly on our minds," Mr Lougoon said. "We will have our team and nine other teams coming for the weekend.
"Our advice to all visiting teams is that we will abide by directive of the Victorian and federal chief medical officers.
"At this point in time, it's full steam ahead. If (the governments) pull the pin on public events that will be the call but we are not preempting a decision."
Bendigo Theatre Company president Abe Watson said advice was being closely monitored and had no plans to cancel or postpone the July production of We Will Rock You.
"Along with many other community organisations, Bendigo Theatre Company is closely monitoring advice from the Australian Government and the Department of Health regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and will continue to do so as the situation develops," Mr Watson said.
"The safety of our members and of the wider community is of utmost importance, and we ask that everyone keep up-to-date with, and follow advice from, the Department of Health, particularly regarding the isolation protocol."
In a statement on Facebook, the Bendigo Writers Festival said responsible management and reliable information was a priority.
"At this stage, there has been no direction from Commonwealth or state government which would impact on holding public events such as festivals or performances," the statement reads.
"Their advice remains that it's business as usual and that includes attending public events.
"Bendigo Venues and Events are, of course, taking necessary precautions to protect the health of staff, performers and audiences.
"Our Festival, and our Big Bookmark, is all about finding the best of us, and enjoying what lifts our spirits."
A Bendigo council spokesperson said planning is continuing as normal for the city's events.
"Although the (Victorian) premier has said mass gatherings/events may be cancelled, at this stage the city has not received any official advice or information that indicates residents need to change their behaviour with regards to attending public events," the spokesperson said.
