YVETTE Palmer achieved an emphatic victory in Saturday night's Flack Advisory-backed Richard Kitt Memorial 1500m at the Bendigo International Madison carnival. Five years after she won the distance classic as Yvette Tuohey, Palmer reigned supreme in the four-lap contest at the Tom Flood Sports Centre. A busy 2019-20 track and field summer had included marriage to James who was trackside for Yvette's latest victory. "To win this again is an amazing feeling," Yvette said. From a mark of 25 seconds, Yvette took the lead at 1 1/2 laps to go as University's Melissa Douglas, from limit of go, fought hard to stay with her. Experience from many races in the distance series run on Thursday night as part of the Bendigo and District Cycling's track program, and from Tuesday Night or Saturday meets at Flora Hill was to the fore. "I could hear the roar of the crowd, but no footsteps behind me, so I thought I was going okay," Palmer said. "This was an unexpected result, but one I am really proud of." Palmer first started racing in 2007 and has contested many events in the Bendigo Harriers colours. Off the backmark of two minutes in the Kitt final, Eaglehawk's Mitchell O'Neill was 11th as the bell sounded for the last lap, but overtook many. Palmer crossed the line more than 10 seconds clear of next best, which was O'Neill who made a desperate lunge to be runner-up ahead of South Bendigo's Lauren White.
