ALEX Zegelin will play some of the world's iconic guitar riffs in July as part of the band in Bendigo Theatre Company's We Will Rock You and he needs voices to help him bring the show to life. Auditions for the musical, which is based around famed-band Queen's music, will be held next week. Zegelin, 25, said the melodies from the rock band were what he was naturally drawn to. "It's Queen. It's 80s rock music," he said. "It's music I naturally play. "Brian May is a very original guitarist and the melodic-ness of every Queen song is great. (My favourite) is I Want It All, it's so melodic and I love that in music. "I also like Bohemian Rhapsody too. I love it for how complex it is. (Brian May) puts a lot of thought into what he does." We Will Rock You vocal director Adam Lyon said he knows Bendigo has a well of talent that would suit the rock music. "We just want really unique voices and people that can bring something unique to the roles," he said. "Voices that fit well into that world of 1970s, '80s, '90s and pop-rock. "Bendigo has always been a fantastic well of talent for as long can remember." Lyon said Queen's ability to make great musical hooks helped them last. "Queen was one of the first bands to really relish in melody and have complex long melodies," he said. "Their songs were great earworms and they had so many great hooks. "Musically they were a very clever band and something like Bohemian Rhapsody is now an iconic and wonderful piece but it was outrageously avant-garde. "Good music lasts and great bands are always the sum of their parts." Lyon expects We Will Rock You to be the sum of many great parts when it arrives in Ulumbarra Theatre in July. "We really want people who can have a synergy and connection to each other," he said. "It might be 12 or 13 years since (I was last involved with a BTC show). It's great to see how far the company has come. "They are really well organised and passionate about everything. There's a really good vibe about it and it's on the up." We Will Rock You is on at Ulumbarra Theatre from July 9 to July 12. For audition information visit the Bendigo Theatre Company Facebook page or email btcswwry@gmail.com
