The squad will head to the Gold Coast later this month for the team's first camp of the year.
Of the 19 players selected, only 12 will compete in Tokyo, with the final list to be released in June.
"It's exciting to be on the squad," Lavey said.
"Now I just can't wait to get to the Gold Coast and get training.
"Over the seven days at the camp there's lots of intensive practice that will test everyone."
If Lavey is successful in being selected for the final 12 players, it would be her second time at an Olympic Games, the first being Rio in 2016.
"As an athlete you always want to compete against the best players," Lavey said.
"At an Olympic Games, they are the best and I will try my absolute hardest to get there"
The Opals secured their spot in the games after a strong qualifying performance in France earlier in the year.
"We are excited to have secured our spot for Tokyo and look forward to working hard over the next five months to ensure we are ready to play our best basketball," says Opals Head Coach Sandy Brondello.
"With that in mind, we are thrilled to name our Olympic Squad, which we believe to be very strong with great versatility, depth and size. The first step of our preparation will begin next month with a camp on the Gold Coast. The coaches and I are anticipating some tough decisions in naming the final team."
