THE 2010s was a decade of struggle for Castlemaine in the BFNL bookended by a pair of winless seasons in 2010 and 2019.
The Magpies claimed four of the decade's wooden spoons and won just 25 of their 178 senior games, including only three over the last three seasons.
Despite the Magpies' on-field battles they did boast one of the decade's Michelsen medallists when rover Wayne Schultz won the BFNL's top individual honour in 2011.
Schultz polled 22 votes in a Magpies team that won just two games, earning best on ground honours in six matches.
"I'm blown away to win the medal. You look around the league at all the talent, particularly at Golden Square with Simon (Rosa) and Weeksy (Grant Weeks), so it's a big honour," Schultz said.
Fellow midfielder Justin Dorward also won the Bendigo Advertiser's Player of the Year in 2015.
Of the Magpies' 25 victories for the decade, their most memorable came in round 13 of 2013 at home against Strathfieldsaye.
The Magpies - who had seven senior coaches for the decade - were last on the ladder; the Storm on top.
But in a massive boilover the Magpies won 14.7 (91) to 12.9 (81), with their standouts headed by Jarryd Graham, who was Castlemaine's top ranked player of the decade with 258 best player votes, Josh Gribben and Rhys Ford, their leading goalkicker of the decade with 101.
The Magpies had also beaten Kangaroo Flat the previous week in what was one of just four times for the decade Castlemaine strung together consecutive wins.
The Magpies' best winning run of the decade was their three victories in a row against South Bendigo (27 ponts), Gisborne (5) and Eaglehawk (25) in rounds seven, eight and nine of 2016.
Although they didn't win the game, one of the biggest days of the decade for the Magpies was round five of 2012 when they had 2001 Bronwlow medallist Jason Akermanis line up for them against Kangaroo Flat.
The Roos won by 29 points, with Akermanis, who started in the centre square and rotated up forward, kicking one goal for the Magpies from his 19 disposals.
Off-field, Castlemaine celebrated a memorable night on September 25, 2017, when former Magpie Dustin Martin won the Brownlow Medal.
Martin got his first taste of senior football at Castlemaine as a 16-year-old in 2007.
Ten years on Richmond's Martin won a Brownlow Medal, premiership and Norm Smith Medal, all in the space of five days.
