Boomerang Bags Bendigo finished on Wednesday but there was still time to break a record, with co-founder Loretta Kingston-Brown saying the group was vying to hand over its 5000th bag.
"I'm really looking forward to being able to share the final tally of what our group has achieved," she said, before people gathered for the final time at the Old Church on the Hill.
"I think it will be a real wow moment when they find out just what we have achieved over the past three years."
The group started in 2017 before plastic bans came into force and Ms Kingston-Brown said it was time to raise awareness through different projects.
Group members celebrated their final gathering by amassing 350 bags each for St Killian's Primary School and Epsom Primary School.
The schools will be able to sell them to raise money for things like recycled plastic furniture, showing students the possibilities of a circular economy, Ms Kingston-Brown said.
