STRATHDALE-Maristians' paceman Chris Sole has delivered the best performance by a first XI bowler at Bell Oval to propel the Suns back to the top of the BDCA ladder.
The Scotsman bowled with precision and venom, picking up 8-22 off 14.3 overs in the second innings of the Suns' outright win over Bendigo on Saturday.
Sole's 8-22 surpasses the previous best figures at Strathdale's Bell Oval, which had been Richard Murphy's 8-57 for the Suns in 1994-95.
The 25-year-old began Saturday having already taken 2-4 off five overs late last week in Bendigo's second dig.
He then added a further 6-18 off 9.3 overs on Saturday, striking immediately with the first ball of the day when he bowled Xavier Ryan (0) with a peach of a delivery, setting the tone for what was to come.
"It was a sensational effort by Chris that he set up last week with the way that he bowled with such pace and late swing," Suns' captain Ben DeAraugo said.
"To get those first couple of wickets last week... we knew we were right into them today and the first ball Chris bowled today to Xavier Ryan was unbelievable; it swung away and took the top of off stump.
"He was red-hot today with his rhythm."
Sole's eight wickets featured four caught (three by wicket-keeper Linton Jacobs), three bowled and one lbw and came after he went wicket-less in Bendigo's first innings.
