ONE of the most remarkable finishes to a BBD home and away season has ended with Eaglehawk grabbing the double chance by the barest of margins from Kangaroo Flat.

With second spot on the line going into their match, the Hawks' one shot win over Kangaroo Flat on Saturday left the two sides with identical records of 162 points and +129 shots, forcing it to come down to percentage to determine which team would secure the double chance.

The Hawks' for/against of 1244/1115 gave them a percentage of 111.569, which proved enough to edge out the Flat, which finished with a percentage of 111.559 (1245/1116).

However, just one point back on 161 was South Bendigo, meaning over the course of 14 rounds just half-a-rink has proven the difference between the Hawks, who will play Bendigo East in the qualifying final, securing a double chance and the Flat and Diggers now facing the elimination final next week.

Eaglehawk had started Saturday 10 points and two shots behind second-placed Kangaroo Flat, which had home green advantage.

But the Hawks winning 90-89 and a split of two rinks apiece was enough for Eaglehawk to leap into second spot by the barest of margins.

The Hawks had the rink of Dean Carter to thank given its 16-shot victory over Paul Moller (33-17) ultimately swung the game - and the double chance - their way.

Meanwhile, South Bendigo defeated Bendigo 98-94, but the two-rink apiece split left the Diggers stuck in fourth position in what was a bittersweet result.

Adding to the frustration for South was its two best-performed rinks of the season, Brad Holland and Mitch Sidebottom, were the two that were beaten.

Bendigo's Leigh Manning defeated Holland 26-19 and Lawrence Brooks upstaged Sidebottom 30-25.

In other round 14 games minor premier Bendigo East had all rinks up in a 105-80 win over Castlemaine and Golden Square defeated Inglewood 108-93.

Bendigo East and Bendigo will be striving to take the direct route through to the grand final when the BBD midweek pennant finals get under way on Monday.

East and Bendigo will clash in the qualifying final at Woodbury.

The two sides split their home and away meetings one apiece, with East winning by one shot in round six (73-72), while Bendigo had a three-shot victory in round 13 (71-68).

In the elimination final Golden Square and Inglewood will be fighting for survival at Bendigo.

The ledger is 1-1 this season, with both sides heading into the finals in solid form.

Golden Square has won its past three games, which includes victories over top two sides Bendigo East (+17) and Bendigo (+40), while Inglewood has surged home late, winning four of its past five.

Inglewood had been sitting sixth heading into last week's final round, but with a win over Woodbury and other results falling its way, soared into fourth position.
