The 50-plus and 40-plus women's teams from Bendigo University, and the under-18 girls from South Bendigo were in hot form at the night meeting run at the Latrobe University Bendigo athletics complex in Retreat Road.
Although they have taken a break from track racing for most of the 2019-20 season, Taryn Furletti and Yasmin Hayes marked a welcome return to LUBAC as they raced the 4 x 1500m relay.
The more experienced Hayes and Furletti joined forces with Lauren White and Caitlin Campbell to run a fine time of 21 minutes 58.41 seconds.
South Bendigo's young stars broke the Centre record for under-20 and under-18 by 70 seconds and were just 11 seconds shy of the open mark set 11 years ago by Bendigo Harriers.
University fielded four teams, and two broke records.
The 50-plus team of David Lonsdale, Craig Green, Mike Bieleny and Russell Jenkins was overall victor in 20:43.10 and broke the Centre record of 21:35 held since 2002 by Bendigo Harriers.
Janet Hodnett, Melissa Douglas, Andrea Smith and Jo-Anne Russell ran the relay in 25:20.08 to set a new mark for the 40-plus class.
The previous record of 26:57.01 was set by Uni Pride's Melissa Douglas, Leah Cripps, Frances Walsh and Andrea Smith on February 6, 2018.
The Geoff Major Rising Star award winner of last season, James Woods added to an impressive run of victories in the South Bendigo colours.
Woods cleared 4.80m at pole vault and put in a great effort to soar above the five-metre mark.
He also leapt 6.36m at long jump.
Those to star on the track included Bendigo Harriers' James Miller, 11.71 in the 100m; Eaglehawk's Jasmin Hurst, 13.38m at 100m; Bendigo Harriers' Taine Lang in the 3000m; and South Bendigo's Thomas McArthur, 5000m; and Eaglehawk's James Bentley in the 400m.
Bailey and Mackenzie Cooper achieved a one-two result for Harriers at javelin; Albury's Xylavene Beale hit 11.48m at shot put; and Eaglehawk's Jorja Morrison reached 4.67m in long jump.
