There is a glaring omission however.
The Leadbeater's possum is Victoria's faunal emblem, and is critically endangered, largely restricted to its unique habitat in the Victorian central highlands.
This iconic species remains under constant threat as Premier Andrews continues to reject the urgent creation of the Great Forest National Park.
A government serious about species protection and conservation would have listened to the science and moved to protect our mountain ash forests and our Leadbeater's possum by ending native timber logging after the 2009 fires.
Victorian governments of both stripes have failed this species and these forests in favour of logging, which, in combination with unchecked climate change, worsens the likelihood and the intensity of bushfire.

Reality passes by
Those who hope for action on climate change from Scott Morrison have heard that the coalition policy will 'evolve'.
How long does evolution take?
Any hope has been obliterated by the government's funding deal with NSW based on a requirement for increased natural gas production and the threat to Victoria of no funds without commitment to onshore gas development and approval for fracking (banned in Victoria).
Scientists have warned for years of the kind of catastrophe we saw this season.
Emergency Leaders for Climate Action, a group of highly experienced fire and other emergency experts led by Greg Mullins have tried since April to meet the Prime Minister but he refuses to talk to them.
Politically, Clive Palmer spent $83 million on his campaign against Labor and substantial donations to federal Liberal, National and Labor parties were made by Woodside, Adani and the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association.
Remember Mr Morrison proudly waving a lump of coal in parliament?
The greatest threat to reliable electricity supply is now the age and unreliability of many coal fired power stations.
Fortunately the states are taking action independent of the federal government, and the City of Greater Bendigo is installing electric vehicle charge points.
Reality is overtaking the federal government.
