JESSE Marciano became the third Spring Gully player to make a century this season as the Crows dominated day one of the EVCA's 1st v 2nd clash against Sedgwick on Saturday.
On a weekend in which Spring Gully celebrated the 10-year reunion of its 2010 grand final win over Sedgwick, the modern day Crows produced a strong batting performance, cracking 9-290 after being sent in.
The innings was highlighted by opener Marciano's 111 from 169 balls, which included nine fours and three sixes in the first match between the Crows and Rams since last season's grand final.
The Spring Gully innings also featured contributions from Byron Perrin (51 n.o.), Rhys Webb (47), Alex Sutton (34) and 2010 premiership captain Shaun Makepeace (31).
Marciano put on 55 for the first wicket with Makepeace before teaming with Webb for a 97-run stand for the second wicket, with those three players all having made centuries this season.
Marciano's innings came to an end when he was the fourth wicket to fall with the score on 212 when bowled by Jordan Ilsley (2-60), who now has 44 wickets for the season.
Webb's 47 has taken him back to the top of the EVCA runs with 520, while veteran Perrin is now averaging 91.3 having made 274 runs and been dismissed just three times from 10 innings.
* Marong blasted its highest score for six seasons on the back of a David Blume century against West Bendigo.
Having also been sent into bat, the Panthers made the Redbacks rue their decision to bowl as they smashed 6-353 at Ken Wust Oval.
Blume's 108 off 186 with 16 fours and one six was the highlight of the innings for the Panthers, while Andrew Gladstone (75) and Adam Brown (69 n.o.) also ensured the runs flowed.
The biggest partnership was the 142 Blume and Gladstone put on for the fourth wicket.
Blume now has 488 runs for the season, including 305 in his past five hits.
Traiton Kendal's 2-38 off nine overs were the best figures for the Redbacks, who started the day well with the early wicket of Panthers' opener Scott Ross (0).
Saturday was Marong's highest score since making 410 against Maiden Gully in 2013-14.
In total the Panthers blasted 37 boundaries and nine sixes in their run-feast.
* Emu Creek has 234 on the board to defend against Maiden Gully in what's a match that will determine which of the two sides will be sitting fourth heading into the final round.
Cobi Hansen (56), opener Luke Bennett (55) and Simon Marwood (50) all made half-centuries for the Emus, who has also had Tyrone Downie contribute 47.
Brett Haw's 3-56 off 15 overs included dismissing both Emus' openers Bennett and Kieren Burns (6).
* California Gully has given itself a chance of winning its first game since round one.
The Cobras produced their best batting performance of the season in making 269 against Mandurang.
Captain Marcus McKern (65) and Jesse O'Connell (32) laid the foundation with a 97-run opening stand, while Shaun O'Shea (55) and Jeremy Blencowe (63) also helped put the Cobras in a solid position.
Jeremy Hancock (4-56) and Beau Roy-Clements (3-73) combined for seven wickets for the Rangas, who will need to make their highest score of the season next week if they are to win.
* United will resume at 0-25 next week after bowling Axe Creek out for 131.
The Tigers won the toss and bowled first, with Joe Hartney (4-27) collecting four wickets against a Cowboys side that had been 5-111 before losing its last five wickets for just 20.
James O'Bryen, who batted for 157 minutes, top-scored for the Cowboys with 36.
