It will help the Havilah Road Preschool car for an expected surge in the area's three to six-year-old population, City of Greater Bendigo mayor Margaret O'Rourke said.
"We'll have about a 17 per cent growth in the next five years," she said.
The state government on Wednesday put $85,861 into the building, which member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards said was part of a sweeping push to get more children into kindergartens.
"The playground here is a little tired and a little old," she said.
"When the three-year-old kinder program rolls out across Bendigo there will be additional students coming here."
That is expected to happen as early as 2022, with other areas including in the Campaspe, Loddon and Central Goldfields areas getting new funding from next year.
The government is billing its three-year-old kindergarten program as the biggest of its type in the state's history.
All three-year-olds will get 15 hours of funded kindergarten programs every week under the policy by 2029.
Ms Edwards has now been to three funding announcements at early years centres in recent weeks and expects more to come soon.
"I think it's important to note that some kindergartens (in Bendigo West) are newer than others. This particular kindergarten has been part of the community for a very long time, so its equipment is a little older than some."

The council has also put about $30,000 towards the project, Cr O'Rourke said.
Preschool teacher-in-charge Lyndall Rye said children had been consulted during the design and sent a clear message about what they wanted.
"They wanted slides. It was all about the slides," she said.
The playground will also include a sensory area, lots of ramps and areas to explore and climb.
