The Bendigo Women's Madison will be held on Sunday night this year.
The change was made to give women the opportunity to compete in front of a bigger crowd and in the process creating an action-packed night of back-to-back Madison races.
"It's quite a big change for us this year as we want to have both Madisons on the same night," Bendigo International Madison committee secretary Rik McCaig said.
"This is an excellent move from Saturday to Sunday as it gives the women the chance to race in front of the large crowd on the feature night at the Tom Flood Sports Centre.
"Moving forward, we think it's going to be a great fit for our event.
"Having the two Madisons on the same night will create an incredible atmosphere for us to finish the carnival."
Queensland cyclists Alex Martin Wallace and Kristina Clonen dominated the track in 2019 to be crowned as the winners of the Bendigo Women's Madison.
The plan for 2020 is to have the 10-team women's race at approximately 7pm followed by the 14-team men's race at 8pm.
The change will now see the Golden Mile Wheelrace take place on Saturday.
"With the Golden Mile on Saturday it enables us to feature the event more prominently," McCaig said.
"Last year the heats were held on Saturday and the race just slotted in on Sunday, it all felt a bit disconnected.
"Now we're taking it back so it's the feature event on Saturday, which also has the women's 400m Black Pearl running race."
In the plans for next year at the 2021 event, which also marks the 50th anniversary of the Madison, is the return of the criterium.
"We're hoping to have it back for our anniversary next year on the Wednesday evening leading up to the Madison," McCaig said.
"It all depends on whether we can secure the funding which is another challenge in itself, we've got plans and we're always thinking of what else we can have down the track."
The 2020 Bendigo International Madison will be held this year from Friday March 6 to Sunday March 8.
The men's teams for the 2020 race were recently announced, with several local riders set for the track which includes Isaac Buckell and Brendan Schultz, and Pat and Sam Eddy.
Buckell will head in to the Madison after strong victories at the Bendigo and District Cycling Club's Christmas Carnival and the 3000m Caps Cup.
