A SINGLE lane bridge near Maryborough has been widened and strengthened in a bid to allow more trucks to use the country road.

Construction workers have transformed the small bridge on Porteous Road in Wareek, an area west of Maryborough.
The single lane over the Bet Bet Creek has been removed and replaced by a two lane bridge.
The structure has also been strengthened to handle bigger trucks that ship agricultural goods through, and out of, the region.

The Porteous Road bridge was officially opened on Monday morning by the Central Goldfields Shire.
The rebuild came in with a total price-tag of $1,080,035.
It was funded with $500,000 from the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development's Bridge Replacement Program.
Regional Roads Victoria gave $270,000 from its Country Roads Program and the Central Goldfields shire gave $310,035.
The project has been delivered by Murray Constructions P/L.
