EAGLEHAWK and Bendigo East couldn't be split in their BBD weekend pennant match on Saturday, with the two finals-bound sides playing out a tie.
Scores were level 85-all after 100 ends in what was the BBD's first tied game for four seasons.
The Hawks led by six shots with four ends to play.
However, the Hawks' advantage was cut to just one after Brad Marron's rink picked up a five for East on the 24th end of its battle with Darren Burgess.
That was followed by Eaglehawk's Dean Carter picking up one on his rink's 24th end against Ian Ross, pushing the Hawks' lead back to two.
With Marron picking up one shot on his 25th end it left Eaglehawk leading by one and the Carter-Ross match-up to decide the result.
Ross' rink was holding one shot for the majority of the final end, but the Hawks had the next four shots.
Given the dangerous lie of Eaglehawk bowls at the front, Ross opted not to risk giving up shot and didn't play his final bowl, leaving the result a thrilling tie.
The points split went 11-7 the way of the Beasties, who won three of the rinks with Marron defeating Burgess 22-15, Aaron Tomkins beating Simon Carter 23-16 and the BBD's No.1 rink of Lee Schraner defeating Brayden Byrne 26-22.
The Hawks had the rink of Dean Carter to thank for escaping with the tie.
Carter's was the only winning rink for the Hawks after its comfortable 32-14 win over Ross, who copped a rare skipper hiding.
* For the second week in a row Inglewood has been cruelly denied a top-four scalp after losing by two shots.
A week after losing to Kangaroo Flat by one shot, this time the Woodies went down to South Bendigo 93-91.
South Bendigo skipper Luke Hoskin delivered the dagger in the heart of the Woodies, who were one up with just one bowl left in the match to be played by Hoskin.
Hoskin handled the pressure superbly, producing a resting toucher that secured the win for South Bendigo that keeps the Diggers in second position.
While the two-shot defeat was a bitter pill to swallow for the Woodies, it would have been a lot worse had it not been for the efforts of the Dale Jackson rink, which had a resounding 39-17 win over Liam Crapper.
There was some silver lining though for the Woodies, who have lifted themselves off the bottom of the ladder.
* Bendigo now sits last on the ladder after suffering its eighth loss in a row.
Golden Square continued Bendigo's struggles, winning 101-87 at Bendigo.
Steve Drummond (+10), Garri Conforti (+5) and Travis Berry (+11) all won their rinks for Golden Square.
* Kangaroo Flat extended its winning streak to four with a comfortable 112-83 victory over Castlemaine at home.
Cameron Wilson (+16) and Barry Anset (+13) led the charge for the Flat, combining for wins by 29 shots - the same as the overall margin.

MIDWEEK PENNANT - ROUND 13 ON MONDAY
THE thrilling race for the four spots in the Bendigo Bowls Division midweek pennant finals continues on Monday, with six sides still in contention with just two rounds to play.
Powerhouse Bendigo East (128) and Bendigo (118), who play each other on Monday, fill the top two rungs, but below them is a logjam.
Just seven points separates Eaglehawk (107), Kangaroo Flat (106), Golden Square (102) and Inglewood (100) from third to sixth.
Two of those jostling teams, Eaglehawk and Golden Square, play each other at Eaglehawk in what will be a pivotal result in the finals race.
Monday's games:
Kangaroo Flat v Woodbury
Bendigo v Bendigo East
Eaglehawk v Golden Square
Inglewood v Castlemaine
