THE 2010-19 decade was one of both devastation and triumph for Newbridge in the Loddon Valley league.
The devastation came in January of 2011 when the Maroons' home ground, Riverside Park, was left in ruins by floods after the Loddon River burst its banks and inundated the town.
"We can only assess what we see. I've been around it in a boat, but until the floodwaters recede we can't assess anything," Newbridge president Ron Trimble said in the immediate aftermath of the flooding.
With the ground decimated, Newbridge was forced to shift its home games in 2011 to YCW's Backhaus Oval before returning to Riverside Park in 2012 - albeit still with many temporary facilities while a new $2 million multi-purpose building was being constructed.
"Even though we competed in the LVFL last year, it just wasn't the same not being able to play on our home ground," Trimble said on the eve of the Maroons' first game back at Riverside Park in 2012.
While the Maroons returned in 2012 - the same year in which they lost the grand final to Bridgewater - the restoration of Riverside Park wasn't completed until May of 2013.
Having navigated its way through the devastation of the flooding, the Maroons later savoured the ultimate success in 2018 when they broke an 18-year premiership drought.
Coached by Brad Comer, the Maroons defeated Mitiamo by 44 points in the 2018 grand final, winning 11.11 (77) to 4.9 (33) on a bitterly cold September day at Bridgewater.
Jordan Gilboy captained the Maroons' 2018 premiership, and was also Newbridge's No.1 ranked player and leading goalkicker for the decade.
Gilboy, who joined the Maroons in 2014, polled 242 best player votes (six for being named best, five for second best and so on), while also booting 130 goals, which included 74 in the 2018 premiership year when a foot fracture forced him out of the midfield and into the forward line.
Gilboy featured among the best players in 55 games for the Maroons during the decade, including in their top three 40 times.
Newbridge forward Rhys Ford kicked the Loddon Valley league's biggest bag of goals for the decade when he slotted 15 against Inglewood in a 193-point win in round five of 2014.
Newbridge's 87 wins rank sixth for the decade.
