JUST like the 1990s and 2000s, the 2010s was a decade without a senior premiership for Marong in the Loddon Valley league.
Marong featured in three finals series throughout the 2010-19 decade and each time the Panthers' season was ended at the hands of Pyramid Hill.
The Panthers lost consecutive first semi-finals to Pyramid Hill in 2013 (36 points) and 2014 (29 points), while in 2016 they were knocked out by the Bulldogs with a 45-point elimination final defeat.
The only other finals the Panthers played during the decade were both elimination final wins over Newbridge by 73 points in 2013 and five points in 2014.
The fact the Panthers only played in three finals series during the decade makes the hand they were dealt last year all the more frustrating when the Maiden Gully YCW points breach against Calivil United in round 14 and subsequent ramifications ultimately led to Marong finishing sixth on the ladder instead of fifth.
The Panthers ranked seventh through the decade for wins with 67, with their best season being their 11 victories in 2014.
The biggest of their wins for the decade was a 136-point hiding of Inglewood in round 16 of 2012 in a game where David Blume (seven), Lachlan Frankel (five) and Brett Rogers (five) combined for 17 goals.
That 2012 season was also the year in which coach Corey Gregg took out the league's Harding Medal.
In his first season as coach of the Panthers after being recruited from Eaglehawk, 23-year-old Gregg won the medal with 24 votes, finishing six clear of Bridgewater's Zac East (18).
Gregg spent five seasons at the Panthers from 2012 to 2016 (he didn't coach in the final year) and was a clear No.1 for most best player votes at Marong for the decade with 206.
Throughout his five years Gregg was named among the Panthers' best players in 50 games, including in their top three 31 times, while he also booted 99 goals.
Lachlan Frankel ended the decade as Marong's leading goalkicker with 143.
Frankel kicked goals in 65 games for the Panthers, and was one of four players - along with Brett Rogers (115), Bryan Vance (106) and David Blume (105) - to slot more than 100 for the decade.
While a senior flag eluded the Panthers - as it has done since their last premiership in 1989 - it was a productive decade for Marong's under-17/18 team.
The Panthers won under-17 premierships in 2010 and 2011 and in 2015 won the first flag of the new under-18 age group.
