Echuca residents Kevin Johnson, 34, and Daniel Oberin, 29, appeared at the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Wednesday for a committal mention.
A four-day committal hearing in August will determine whether there is enough evidence for the pair to face trial before a jury in a higher court.
They are accused of killing Matthew Alexander on September 13, 2019.
Mr Alexander, 29, was found with life-threatening injuries at an Eastons Road, Daltons Bridge address shortly after 6am, but died at the scene.
Both Mr Johnson and Mr Oberin appeared at court via videolink from the Melbourne Remand Centre on Wednesday.
Neither applied for bail, and they remain in custody.
