Police believe the man, who is yet to be formally identified, lost control of his vehicle on Ellis Road about 1.30am before colliding with a tree.

Emergency services were called to the scene but he was unable to revived and died at the scene.

An investigation into the exact cause of the collision remains ongoing.

This year 15 people have died on Victoria's roads compared to nine at the same time last year.
