The theatre group will host two reading nights this year, with one focused on giving playwrights the chance to show off new scripts that can be read at a play reading night in front of an audience.

"It fits with where we're at the moment," Synchronicity co-founder and creative director Wendy Collishaw said. "We are really keen to encourage new playwriting.

"Bendigo Theatre Company is already doing that so beautifully with short plays in Tenx10 but we are look to do more with (local) writing.

"We feel it is essential for theatre encouragement and would love to encourage larger one act plays or full plays (to be produced). (We hope to) get one or two put on for a night and have an audience to come and listen to a read. The main idea is to encourage writing of new works."

Synchronicity will also stage two comedy as part of its 2020 season.

It will present Ken Ludwig's Leading Ladies in May and Elizabeth Coleman's Secret Bridesmaid's Business in November. Both shows will be at Bendigo Pottery.

Secret Bridesmaid's Business was originally set to be performed in 2019 but Mrs Collishaw said the company overstretched itself.

"We're a small company and two plays is our limit. So we made the decision to push it this year," she said.

"Ken Ludwig is a famous writer who takes a theme and play and re-writes into a comedy farce. (Leading Ladies) is a remake of Some Like It Hot."

Mrs Collishaw said Synchronicity enjoyed an increase of participants and audiences last year.

To help continue the company's growth, Synchronicity will host two theatre skills workshops this year.

"We had a cast of 30 for Pride and Prejudice and smaller one for Vicar, which was so well received," Mrs Collishaw said ."We are trying to grow audiences each year (as well as) participation.

"One (theatre skills workshop) will be for absolutely beginners and other is for people looking to get back into theatre. They are all that demystification of theatre to encourage people."
