VICTORIA Road is expected to be repaired today after a semi-trailer hit a railway bridge on Friday.
Traffic has been diverted around the bridge this weekend after a 10-12 tonne bridge protection beam fell on the road.
The bridge reopened to trains on Friday but a crane was required to lift the beam from the road.
Friday, 9.45pm:
VICTORIA Road will be closed for one or two days after a semi-trailer carrying hay hit a railway bridge, knocking down a protection beam.
The protection beam, weighing 10-12 tonnes, will take a crane to lift.
Police said the trailer carrying vetch hay from Charlton to Sutton Grange lost its load when it hit the bridge.
Train services were suspended until the bridge could be deemed safe, but have now resumed.
Police will make inquiries in relation to the driver accessing a bridge lower than appropriate for his load.
He will be interviewed at a later date.
9.30pm:
TRAINS have resumed and are running as normal after an inspection of the bridge.
7:45pm:
A V/LINE fitter and inspector will assess damage to a railway bridge in Harcourt before trains begin to run again.
Trains were stopped after a truck carrying hay bales hit a railway bridge over Victoria Road about 6.30pm.
At least two services have terminated at Castlemaine with train replacement buses.
Safety railing appears to have been torn off the bridge.
OTHER NEWS:
The fitter and inspector are en route to assess the damage.
Trains will begin to run through the area again after a detailed inspection is complete and the bridge is safe.
A V/Line spokesperson said safety was the organisation's number one priority.

7.30pm
SIGNIFICANT delays and changes are expected to Bendigo V/Line services after a truck hit a bridge near Harcourt.
Victoria Road is closed at the scene of the crash.
The 18.35 Epsom - Southern Cross will terminate at Bendigo.
The 17.30 and 17.53 Southern Cross - Epsom services will terminate at Castlemaine.
Customers on both services have been asked to board train replacement coaches.
6.45pm
BENDIGO line trains have been stopped after a truck crashed into a railway bridge at Harcourt.
The truck carrying large hay bales hit the railway bridge running over Victoria Road.
The 17.30 Southern Cross - Epsom service is being held at Castlemaine.
Ambulance Victoria confirmed paramedics were called to the scene but did not treat anyone.
The crash happened about 6.30pm.
V/Line and VicRoads have been contacted for comment.
