RAY Johns, Barry Ayres, Leon Grose, Greg O'Brien, John Hammill and now Adam Burns.
Throughout the history of the Bendigo District Cricket Association more than 4750 players have played first XI, but only six are in the elite all-rounder class of having made 5000 runs and taken 500 wickets.
In a remarkable coincidence, Kangaroo Flat's Burns joined that exclusive club alongside Johns, Ayres, Grose, O'Brien and Hammill last Saturday when he took both his 500th wicket and made his 5000th run in the Roos' win over Bendigo.
The 38-year-old's two scalps took his career tally to 500 - his milestone wicket was that of Kyle Humphrys caught behind - while his 14 n.o. lifted his career runs to 5007.
"I guess when these sort of things come around it shows your age... you've got to play a lot of seasons to get up there," Burns said this week.
Burns, who is now playing alongside his son Riley, made his first XI debut with the Roos in 1998-99 and has spent his entire career at Dower Park apart from a one-season stint at Premier Cricket club Geelong in 2006-07.
Burns - a dual premiership player and three-time BDCA Cricketer of the Year - has long been renowned as one of the modern day greats with the ball who three times during the 2000s cracked the 40-wicket barrier (40 in 2002-03, 47 in 2003-04 and 41 in 2007-08).
His tally of 500 scalps, making him the 10th player to join the BDCA 500 club, includes 26 five-wicket hauls and two 10-wicket matches.
While Burns' bowling exploits have long been noted, they have somewhat overshadowed what has been a solid middle-order career with the bat that has yielded seven centuries.
Testament to his all-round impact with bat and ball, Burns' batting average (30.07) is almost double that of his bowling average (15.54), while his longevity of high performance is highlighted by his selection in both the Addy's BDCA Team of the Decade for the 2000s and 2010s.
And when you factor in Burns' Melbourne Country Week and Twenty20 numbers as well, there's a further 1152 runs and 161 wickets to add to what is a brilliant BDCA resume.
Burns will be in action for Kangaroo Flat on Saturday when the Roos host Strathfieldsaye in a crucial one-day match between fifth and sixth on the ladder.
