Australian filmmaker Cameron Nugent and producer Andrew Curry will introduce the family-friendly film, featuring Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons.
Following the film's screening, Cameron and Andrew will take part in an audience Q&A.
A Boy Called Sailboat has received numerous accolades, including the Boston Film Festival's Best Screenplay award in 2018 and the El Paso Film Festival's Grand Jury prize in 2019.
An independent film 20 years in the making, A Boy Called Sailboat is set in the deep south of America and follows a devout Hispanic family who discover fresh hope in their extraordinary son, Sailboat.
A loving personal gesture awakens a global desire and armed with a "little guitar" and shadowed by an unblinking sidekick, Sailboat leads an offbeat cast into the miraculous story of the greatest secret never told.
Mr Nugent describes the film as a heartfelt story about the most unlikely thing happening and coming from the most unlikely place.
"The film is rooted in the reality of a small town in southern America in the 1980s," Mr Nugent said.
The film was shot in Silver City, New Mexico after months of searching for a suitable location.
"I travelled across the United States to look for locations and when we came to Silver City, it was perfect.
"It is a beautiful and pretty town surrounded by desert, which is a feature of the film," Mr Nugent said.
After initially hoping for a small release in Australia, the film has been sold in 20 countries and was purchased by American television network HBO, the first independent Australian film ever purchased by the network.
Mr Nugent has a written series of five stories, of which A Boy Called Sailboat is the first to be adapted into film.
The five stories all take place at the exact same time, during a six week period in the 1980s, with some characters moving in and out.
In A Boy Called Sailboat, the protagonists are eight to 10 years of age. In the sequel, The Forever Gang, which is in pre-production, they are 13 and 14 years old.
The next chapter in Mr Nugent's creative odyssey is anticipated to begin filming in Vancouver later this year.
A Boy Called Sailboat screens at the Star Cinema, Eaglehawk tomorrow at 1pm.
