The City of Greater Bendigo will meet next week to choose a board to shape art and culture around town over three years.
The 2016 census found roughly 5000 people working in creative and cultural industries like art, music, design, marketing and other roles roles.
Bendigo's council wants a steering committee to steer the growing industry to help attract tourists, bring new residents to the area and enrich the lives of those already here.
The group would work over three years, including investigating ideas for new community and arts spaces including for Indigenous artists and others.

Work will include creating a "bold new public art policy" to bring more creativity to public spaces, and to advocate for creative industries.
The committee would be chaired by Bendigo councillor Matt Emond, whose pre-election experiences included starting his own creative practice as a theatre director and cultural planner. His deputy chair would be councillor Rod Fyffe.
