The male senior constable has been transferred to other duties, having been charged with fail to store longarm in a manner provided and fail to notify police of a change of address within 14 days.
He will appear before a magistrates' court at a later date.
The Victoria Police western region spans most of the state's west and includes Bendigo, Campaspe, Central Goldfields, Macedon Ranges, Mildura, Swan Hill, Ballarat, Geelong, Warrnambool, Horsham and the Northern Grampians.
