Mr Williams said a man visited his store in Lyttleton Terrace on Saturday asking for change for $100. After confusing the staff member, the man ended up pocketing more money than he gave to the store.
"From the footage it looks like he slipped some into his back pocket," Mr Williams said. "We were out about $100. We don't normally change money and we will be a lot stricter with that now."
Mr Williams has reported the incident to the police and believes the man may have visited other businesses in Bendigo.
"We put it on Facebook and got a couple of inboxes back," he said.
Bendigo Police Sergeant Rosie Rowe said business should report many businesses were prudent in checking for counterfeit notes and scams.
"They work hard for every dollar," she said. "(It could) be someone's wages. We encourage staff and business owners to report that sort of stuff."
