Samantha Barr pleaded guilty in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court this week to failing an oral fluid test within three hours of driving, driving an unregistered vehicle, displaying incorrect number plates and driving disqualified in relation to events on June 26 last year.

The court heard Barr was pulled over in Inglis Street that morning and police enquiries revealed the number plates were not issued to the vehicle and its registration had expired.

Oral fluid tests also showed Barr had methamphetamine in her system.

She admitted to police she had lost her licence, having been disqualified for two years, and was driving to help someone escape an abusive relationship.

The court heard the car did not belong to Barr.

Barr admitted to the court it was wrong to have driven on that day, but she had stopped using drugs and turned her life around.

The Kew resident said she was now gaining qualification to become a mental health and drugs worker herself.

Magistrate Bruce Cottrill noted Barr was banned from driving for two years in 2018 for refusing to accompan police for a test, the same year her licence was suspended for drug-driving.

Mr Cottrill said Barr's most recent offending put her within range of imprisonment, but he would give her one last chance in the community.

Barr was convicted and fined $1750 plus costs, and disqualified from driving for another three years.

"Come back before this court for matters of a similar nature, you go to jail," Mr Cottrill told her.
