Jessica West, 37, and her five-year-old son Deighton were killed in a two-vehicle crash near Kingston on December 29.

Husband and father Anthony avoided serious injury, while older son Oakley, 9, was airlifted to the Royal Children's Hospital in a critical condition.

Thankfully, Oakley's condition has improved and he is recovering well from his injuries.

In a notice published in the Bendigo Advertiser on Monday, Mrs West was described as "an exceptional, generous and caring woman with a bubbly personality".

Mrs West grew up in central Victoria and had been a teacher at Strathfieldsaye Primary School for 10 years.

Her husband penned a tribute to her in which he described her as the love of his life.

Mr West said his wife "would walk into a room and instantly make the vibe of the room better than no other".

"There aren't enough words for me to use to express how much I will miss you," he said.

Deighton - or D-man, as his dad affectionately calls him - is remembered as a caring little boy who showed great sporting potential.

He was looking forward to joining Oakley at school this year, having recently graduated from kindergarten.

Mr West said his little boy's "infectious smile and cheeky grin" would forever remain in his mind.

"Your thirst for life and desire to be the best at whatever you did was nothing short of inspiring," he wrote.

Eaglehawk Cricket Club, which has ties to the family, has posted on social media that Mrs West's family has asked for no flowers and instead suggests donations to the Royal Children's Hospital.

The club has offered its support to the extended family and its members in the wake of the tragedy.
