Bendigo's Jack Bouwmeester tasted success in his first season of college football in the United States.
Bouwmeester's school the Michigan State Spartans won the Pinstripe Bowl 27-21 against Wake Forest at Yankees Stadium in New York on Saturday morning (AEDT).
Bouwmeester, a rookie punter with the Spartans, didn't see any game time in the Pinstripe Bowl.
His opportunity will come next season after the Spartans' senior punter Jake Hartbarger graduates.
Bouwmeester is a product of the ProKick program run by Bendigo's Nathan Chapman.
Hickman speeds into world series season
Bendigo racer Rusty Hickman kicked off the World Series Sprintcar season with a strong fourth-place finish at the opening night at Murray Bridge.
After strong performances during the heats on the second night, Hickman crashed out on the seventh lap.
On the third night at Mt Gambier he suffered another crash in the heats, which saw him start from position seven in the B-main race.
However, due to damage from the rollover, the drive line failed resulting in a DNF and no transfer to the main event.
